National Healthcare Decisions Day Is Here!

In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.

Benjamin Franklin

April 15 is, of course, tax day. That is where part of Benjamin Franklin's favorite quote comes into play. But April 16 may play a part as well, as it is the 8th Annual National Healthcare Decisions Day.

I know that sounds about as much fun as tax day, but it is far more important, and dealing with it can be proactive and fulfilling. Why have a National Healthcare Decisions Day at all? As the NHDD website says:
National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) exists to inspire, educate and empower the public and providers about the importance of advance care planning. NHDD is an initiative to encourage patients to express their wishes regarding healthcare and for providers and facilities to respect those wishes, whatever they may be.

While we have some resources here on our website, the NHDD website has many many more.

There is always a plan for what happens to you if you cannot speak for yourself. If you have not talked to your family, friends and loved ones, then that plan is often just chaos. I have two decades of stories about families that cannot agree on what to do, and cannot even agree there is a problem. Children who never forgive each other for their actions, and parents regretting not knowing what their children wanted.

Chaos is a not a plan. So the time is now to get started. NHDD even has a way to get started:

Blame NHDD!

Or blame me. But either way, get started by looking over the NHDD website, or contacting one of the attorneys here at Handler & Levine, LLC.

Take control of your health care decisions, and start on April 16!
